Hebrews 4:12 in amazing detail- SO I was on a biz trip in Phoenix with Audiology Group. I had a few hours to study Scripture and noted one Scripture that hit me in the chest. When I was in under grad I memorized several famous Scriptures, among them was Hebrews 4:12. But let me quote the Holmann Study Bible version:
“For the Word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the ideas and thoughts of the heart.”
This is slightly different wording than the NIV that I memorized. But there are few Scriptures that read this way.
OK so now let’s give you the beginning of Heb. 4:12. The beginning states that the Word is alive (living) and effective. The first word Zao means what it means by having true life as opposed to a fake life that all the world is searching for in the form of entertainment and leisure.
Second word is Effective which is where we get the word energy. It means powerful and active. It intimates that the Word of God has an energy source that keeps it alive. So what in our world has an energy source that keeps something alive = Battery. The ancient world knew of primative batteries that were OK for some uses but were difficult to sustain effectively. That means that Alessandro Volta (sounds familiar? Where we get the term Volt for how much power) who invented the first battery in 1800 to power devices that needed electrical energy.
Huh? So batteries were really discussed in Scripture before any possible understanding of the terminology existed…still believe that the Word isn’t true? This is only the tip of the iceberg on this one verse. Stay tuned…will give you more later!
