Crash

Christian Short Stories

In June of 1989, I was in between my Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree program recovering emotionally from a horrid senior year in which I felt knifed in the back by universities and cooperating teachers who took away my teaching degree that I earned.  I was changing into being an Audiologist of which God had wanted all along, but I didn’t feel that at the time.  I had been studying Eschatology since 1982 and still today (first books about Eschatology will be released in 2015 called ForeTold book One and Two).  This concept was rattling within my brain in the beginning of that summer with the failed books of a writer who penned “88 Reasons Why Christ will Return in ’88”.  When that didn’t occur, he followed that up with 89 reasons.  Both were wrong because “no man knows the day or the hour of Christ’s return” as Matthew explains from Jesus’ own Words.  Every date prediction was wrong, but I, always seeking the Lord’s return even today, was disappointed that He didn’t come back before that summer because of the myriad of difficulties a young man was facing that year.  Escapism was high on my list but not on the Lord’s.

I wrote this story in that June only to find out that a Sioux City, Iowa bound airplane would crash (United 232) on July 19, 1989.  It originated from Denver, where I was living at the time in my parents house that summer.  Little did I know that my one of my best friend’s father had moved from Coach Class to First Class as a free upgrade upon that flight.  Kim had a tortured several days until she learned that her father’s move to First Class would end his life.  I kept this story locked away for years because of the friendship with Kim, but it is in honor of this family from Colorado Springs.

Poem of Drip

Christian Short Stories

I was a junior at the University of Northern Colorado when a class was cancelled.  I chose to sit out front of my then-girlfriend’s class at the school of music.  Kathy was an Elementary Education major taking a class about music for the grade schoolers.  It was a lonely hallway but the sounds emanating from the room could not be described as music but cacophony.  A trance of types was coming upon my right temporal lobe with the horrid sounds of a beginner’s instrument called a Recorder (a flute-sounding instrument) of which I cannot stand the timbre of the darned thing to this day.  Only about five people passed the hallway which would interrupt my morose thoughts that day which manifested its way into this poem called Drip.

Three Views of the Dark

Christian Short Stories

This is a very short example of my early writing.  I was thinking way outside of the box in college as an English major when I was considering what Hell might be like.  I refreshed the story a little twenty years later in 2004.  Each of these views are different that anything Billy Joel in his songs sang about since he was conceiving of silliness not born in truth.  Scripture is clear that Hell does exist and that it is a once-in-all decision.  One decision that can only occur in the life who accepts Grace before he or she dies.  See what you think of different views of what Hell might be?
